The fuck is the deal with this manga/anime wannabe artists making fan art of the Avengers? I mean seriously… I understand some people actually consider block faced, jumbo eyed, cat-eared, 2-D, flat pictures artwork. If you want you subject yourself to that sort of eye-torture then fine. To…
The Atlanta con scene is nowhere near as exciting and lively as it is in California, Nevada, Illinois, Canada, or New York… but what we do we do it well.
For those unaware, there are dozens of cons in Georgia and even more in surrounding states like North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. We have trade shows and vendor events like the Atlanta Comic Con (ACC), but the stand-out ones for the best drinking are these two: Dragon*Con and Japan Fest.
Dragon*Con is the premier convention for all things nerdy and geeky. There is less of a focus on comics and more as all fandom in general. You will find everything from sci-fi, to anime, to steampunk, to comics, to fantasy, to video games. There is something there for just about everyone. Not convinced that seeing a bunch of weirdo’s is enough to get you to go? Well do you like to party? Do the idea of people walking around with SuperSoakers full of Redbull and vodka shooting you in the mouth? Are you a fan of drinking heavily and partying in scantily clad everyone? Or maybe you just want to see one of the most intense parties in the Southeast. Yeah, this con is for people who like to party and have fun.
Then there is Japan Fest. Hidden away in Duluth, most people overlook this convention. Many think it’s just a cultural thing and for the most part it is. There are a lot of traditional Japanese vendors and shows (the shows are very cool though) but they also appeal to anime and manga fans as well as gamers. Then there is all the amazing food and free stuff. Throw in the fact that it they have the cheapest prices on sake and Japanese beer, you are going to be toasted and watching guys bang on huge drums. It’s cheap and fun. Great place to drink and eat.
I will am going against my better judgement here. I’ve been watching the 500 greatest movies of all time and I’ve come to this, number 488: Princess Mononoke (1997). Some may not see my dilemma right away, but you see, I generally hate anime and manga for various reasons.
Still though, I will remain vigilant and do my best to watch it despite my disdain. Maybe (and that’s a big maybe) I’ll actually enjoy it.

Starring Billy Crudup, Billy Bob Thornton, Minnie Driver, & Claire Danes
So my disdain for anime is not something that I hide. I have my reasons and I don’t intend to get into that rant here and now, however with that said let’s focus on this movie. This movie…
Guys, if you haven’t seen this movie you should. This is an anti-anime fan endorsement.
